YVONNE WASHINGTON

From her start at The Red Rooster, a small club in Houston, to recording the soundtrack of a Richard Gere movie, Yvonne’s rise was slow. Motherhood, lack of respectable venues (“there were no nice places for a black lady to sing”) and vocal cord maladies sidetracked her career for many years. Yvonne’s determination pushed through all obstacles, allowing her voice to shine through as one of our country’s most magical performers.
